What it is
It’s magnesium joined to one oxygen atom. Oxygen is light, so about 60.3 % of the weight is magnesium. You need about 166 mg of oxide for 100 mg of magnesium.
Names on Australian labels
- Heavy or light magnesium oxide: the same thing as a dense or light powder.
- Magnesium (from heavy magnesium oxide): gives the magnesium only.
What to check on the label
Both figures printed? Multiply the compound weight by 0.603. Other compounds listed too? Then it’s a blend. Oxide is the main part of several blends.
Why it matters to you: oxide’s high share brings its cost per 100 mg down. That’s chemistry and price, nothing more. Whether oxide suits you is a question for a pharmacist.
Products
Nothing on our list is sold as oxide alone yet. It’s part of 4 blends, listed below.
